Laughter Yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason without relying on humor, jokes or comedy.
We initiate laughter as an exercise in a group and with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.
The reason we call it Laughter Yoga is because it combines laughter exercises with deep breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain which makes one feel more energetic and healthy.
Scientific studies show that the body cannot differentiate between real laughter and voluntary laughter if done with willingness. One gets the same health benefits, whether laughter is real or simulated.
It was started by a medical doctor Dr. Madan Kataria from India with just five people in a Mumbai Park in 1995. There are thousands of free social Laughter Clubs in more than 100 countries.

Rachel Amar experienced a period of profound self-reflection during the pandemic. After years of working in the corporate world, she felt exhausted and depressed, realizing that she wasn't fully living her purpose. That's when she became aware of her gift for laughter. After participating in a vision board workshop, she was struck by the moment she decided to pursue her desire to become a Laughter Yoga instructor.
During the pandemic, Rachel seized the opportunity to train online via Zoom and obtained her Laughter Yoga instructor certification. It was a major turning point in her life. From then on, she embarked on this new adventure with passion and determination.
After acquiring her certification, Rachel began teaching classes in person in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, where she moved with her family to explore new horizons. She also launched a weekly online class, providing a broader audience with the opportunity to laugh and relax, even from a distance.
Her commitment to Laughter Yoga paid off when Rachel won first place at the Canadian Laughter Championship in 2023, recognizing her laughter as the most contagious in the country. This recognition strengthened her belief in the benefits of laughter for mental and emotional health.
Today, Rachel Amar continues to inspire others through her teaching of Laughter Yoga. Her ability to bring joy and well-being to those she encounters is truly a gift, and she continues to spread laughter and positivity wherever she goes.
